eSylvan Marks 50,000 Hours of Online Instruction

Online Tutoring Service Achieves Reading, Math Instruction Milestone

BALTIMORE, MD (August 26, 2002) - Today, eSylvan announced a milestone - 50,000 hours of reading and math instruction have been taught online to students across the United States. In fact, eSylvan is adding more than 7,000 session hours each month - that's nearly ten session hours for every one hour in a month.

eSylvan launched nationwide in May 2002 to offer personalized, Web-based reading and math tutoring for students in grades 3-9 provided by state-certified teachers (the program had been available in several test markets since October 2000). Using proven standardized testing and teaching methods, eSylvan is able to generate guaranteed results and improve skills and self-confidence - both critical to the educational success of a child.

eSylvan's unique technology enables a student and teacher to have "real conversations in real time," as if they are on the telephone, using a hands-free headset connected to an ordinary PC. The student and teacher talk with one another as they write questions and answers on the same workspace displayed on both the student's and teacher's computer screens using a digital pencil and digital writing pad (similar to a mousepad).
